Scarce One-Gallon Stoneware Jar, Stamped "PAUL : CUSHMANS," Albany, NY, early 19th century, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, tall collar, and applied lug handles, featuring the large coggled mark "PAUL CUSHMANS" extending across the front. Collar decorated completely around with a coggled diamond and foliate design. Surface covered in a mottled reddish-brown slip and covered in a salt glaze. Unusual squat-shaped form. Excellent condition with a minor, shallow chip on top of rim and a tiny rim nick. A few in-the-firing iron pings. H 7 3/4".
