Very Rare Glazed Redware Batter Pail, Stamped "AUBURN, NY," Cayuga County, NY, circa 1840-1860, semi-ovoid vessel with tubular pouring spout and ribbed handle with crudely-applied clay thumbrest. Surface covered in an olive-colored lead-base glaze accented with brown iron spotting. An exceedingly rare form in American redware. One of a small number of stamped Auburn, NY pieces known. Excellent condition with a base chip on front, two shallow chips to thumbrest, and two minor rim nicks. H 7 1/4" ; Diameter (at opening) 4 3/8".
