Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Butter Crock with Lid, attributed to the Remmey Pottery, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1840-1860, cylindrical crock with heavily-tooled shoulder, squared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a series of brushed cobalt tulips on the front and back, as well as wavy stripes under each handle. Lid, which is a later Remmey example with impressed "2" on underside, is decorated with cobalt swags and heavy cobalt around the knob. Several small rim chips. Two shallow chips to flange on underside of lid. H (including lid) 6" ; Diameter 8".
