One-Gallon Cobalt-Stenciled Stoneware Batter Pail, Stamped "F.H. COWDEN / HARRISBURG," PA origin, circa 1880, ovoid pail with tubular pouring spout and metal-and-wood bail handle, decorated with a stenciled design of flourishes on the reverse and wreath-like brushwork flanking the spout on the front. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, consigned from Washington State. Chips to spout and salt drip to one side under one handle. Otherwise excellent condition.
