Exceptional Four-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Large Incised Floral Decoration, Stamped "D. ROBERTS & Co / UTICA," New York State origin, circa 1830, ovoid jar with tall flaring collar and large lug handles, decorated with a finely-incised and cobalt-highlighted foliate design with heavy detail to interior leaves. Additional cobalt highlights to maker's mark and handle terminals. One of only three examples of this rare New York State maker's mark we have ever offered, and certainly the finest. Early incised stoneware from Utica is considered very rare. Excellent condition with some tiny rim chips. H 13 1/4".
