Five-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Stenciled Rose Decoration, Stenciled "JAS. HAMILTON & CO. / GREENSBORO. / PA.," circa 1875, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with two large rose clusters above James Hamilton stenciling. Base with large bold-faced 5 flanked by rays. Freehand stripes at shoulder and base. Excellent decoration. Hairline in underside and some wear to right side of front. Otherwise excellent condition.
