Rare Three-Gallon Stoneware Churn with Elaborate West Virginia Advertising, Stenciled "C.F. PARSONS & SON / HUNTINGTON. W.VA," Western PA origin, circa 1875, cylindrical churn with tooled shoulder, rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with freehand stripes above and below the profuse stenciled advertising "C.F. PARSONS & SON / DOORS, SASH, / LATH, / LIME, / HARDWARE / QUEENSWARE & C.". Stenciled flourishes at midsection, flanking the advertising, and flanking a stenciled 3 at base. A particularly fine example of West Virginia advertising stoneware. Chip to interior of rim and a few small chip to inner rim where a lid would rest. Large in-the-firing contact mark on reverse of churn. Some fry to left side of cobalt stripes at base.
