Rare Palatine, WV Stoneware Jar with Stenciled Eagle Decoration, circa 1875, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with the stenciled mark "THOMAS B. HARDEN. / PALATINE. W. VA" surrounding a spread-winged Federal eagle with banner in its beak. Large base chips. 5" crack extending up from base 5", then horizontally 5 1/2" under the stenciled words "PALATINE. W. VA." as well as 2 1/2" in the opposite direction. Y-shaped crack on underside. 3 1/2" glazed-over crack at base on reverse, continuing onto underside.
