Very Rare Glazed Redware Pitcher with Yellow Slip "Swan" Decoration, Baltimore, MD origin, early 19th century, ovoid pitcher with rounded foot and flaring collar, the surface decorated with four large groups of yellow slip swags reminiscent of a swan, applied over a lead-and-manganese-glazed ground. The distinctive slip decoration on this pitcher is characteristic of other redware examples, which, like this pitcher, were excavated in Baltimore. Missing handle. Flakes to surface. Rim chips and a few rim nicks. 3" thin crack from rim. H 6 3/4".
