Rare Four-Gallon Stoneware Cream Jar with Cobalt Double Bird Decoration, Stamped "H.M. WHITMAN / HAVANA. N.Y.," circa 1860, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with an elaborate slip-trailed cobalt design of crossed birds with ringed necks, crested heads, and heavily-detailed bodies. Birds hold a flower in their beaks. Significant restoration to surface, including much of decoration. Additional fry to cobalt. H 12".
