Scarce Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "W.H. FARRAR / GEDDES, N.Y.," circa 1860, ovoid jar with flared rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a large brushed and slip-trailed cobalt design of a bird perched on a looping vine, facing a leafy stem. Slip-trailed "2" to right of bird. A desirable New York State decoration. Several rim chips. Several additional shallow chips on interior, where a lid would rest. 2" salt glob under one handle. Hairline on interior of rim. 2 1/2" hairline on exterior of rim, beside an additional 3/4" hairline. 1 1/2" flake / stone ping on reverse below rim, along with a second small chip to body on reverse. Hairline extending across underside and up reverse 5". H 11 1/2".
