Extremely Rare Shenandoah Valley Redware Jar, Stamped "J.E. SIMONS," Mechanicstown (now Thurmont), MD, circa 1880, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and squared rim, the interior covered in a reddish-brown lead and manganese glaze. This jar is the first example of pottery bearing this mark we have offered. Provenance: From a thirty-year Maryland collection. Long crack descending from rim. Heavy chipping to rim. H 6".
