Stoneware Canning Jar, Stenciled "KNOTTS, SWINDLER & CO / PALATINE W. VA," circa 1875, cylindrical jar with "wax sealer" rim, the front decorated with freehand cobalt stripes and a stenciled flourish. Provenance: From a Western MD collection. Stone ping in underside. Base chip. Minor glazed-over separation at base. Restored rim chips. Chips to interior of rim. H 9 1/2".
