Rare and Fine Miniature Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Leaf or Tree Decoration, New York State origin, circa 1840, highly ovoid jug with tooled spout and applied handle, decorated with a brushed cobalt design of a tree or leaf, beside a second abstract design resembling a turned-head bird perched on a stump. A good example of early miniature stoneware. Excellent, as-made condition with some fry to spout and a shallow base chip, which appears to be in-the-firing. H 2 3/4".
