Rare Albany-Slip-Glazed Stoneware Jug with Incised Bird Decoration, Incised "Chippe / J.R.M.," Midwestern origin, possibly Red Wing, late 19th century, approximately two-gallon jug with squat form and Albany-slip-glazed surface, incised with a folky design of a long-tailed bird perched on a plant. Incised "Chippe" to the right of the bird, along with the initials "J.R.M." below. Impressed "A" at base on reverse. An unusual example of incised Midwestern stoneware. Mint condition. H 12 1/2".
