Rare Yale University Stoneware Football Mug, Dated 1903, cylindrical Albany-slip-glazed mug with applied handle and sgraffito decoration, featuring the figure of a jester writing on a tablet with a quill, seated atop a Yale University seal. Surface to the jester’s right decorated with incised football scores, reading "FOOT / -BALL / 1900- / YALE - 35 / CARLISLE / -0. / Y. 29 - / PRINCETON / -5 / Y- 28 / HARVARD - 0." Opposite side of mug incised with the large date "1903." Handle incised with dashes. Underside incised "L.S. KIRT- / LAND / MARCH 4 /1901." An exceptional Yale mug with a rare reference to the early years of college football. Mint condition. H 5 3/4".
