Three-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Large Cobalt "3" Decoration, Stamped "J, BUCKNER & CO. / NOVELTIES / WATERBURY, CT.," circa 1870, cylindrical crock with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a large slip-trailed cobalt "3" with curling base, underscored by zig-zagging cobalt lines. An unusual example of CT advertising. 5" tall Y-shaped hairline on reverse, extending onto underside. Chips to both handles. Glazed-over stone ping at base. H 10 1/8".
