Three-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, attributed to J.P. Schermerhorn, Richmond, VA, circa 1830, ovoid jar with heavily-tooled shoulder, flaring rim and applied lug handles, decorated front and back with a brushed cobalt 3, underscored by dashes and an S-shaped stroke. 3" rim chip. Chip to end of one handle. Spidering hairlines extending up wall of jar from base on two sides. These hairlines extend a short distance onto underside. Base chips. H 13 3/8".
