Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Shoulder Jug, Stamped "S. BELL & SON / STRASBURG," circa 1895, cylindrical jug with squared shoulder and rounded upper portion ending in a tall spout, impressed with "S. BELL & SON" mark on reverse. Rare form modeled after mass-produced whiskey jugs of the late 19th century. Provenance: From a thirty-year Virginia collection. Numerous chips to squared shoulder. Glazed-over spout chip and a few other very small spout chips. In-the-firing chip and small piece of kiln furniture residue to top of handle. Areas of dryness to surface. H 11".
