Rare Early New Jersey Stoneware "GIN" Keg Cooler, attributed to the Morgan / van Wickle Pottery, Old Bridge, NJ, circa 1820, approximately four-gallon keg-form cooler with raised and cobalt-highlighted bands, its squared and cobalt-highlighted bung hole with incised edge and impressed rosettes at the corners. Incised "GiN" at the shoulder, with dashed interior to letters, also highlighted in cobalt. This unusual cooler was excavated a short distance from the Morgan / van Wickle pottery site of Old Bridge, NJ, and was likely made there circa 1820. Broken into pieces and restored, with some filled and colored areas. The interesting bung hole remains well-preserved with a crack running through it and a small colored spot. H 14".
