Very Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Bold Cobalt Garland Decoration, Stamped "MYERS & BOKEE," Baltimore, MD origin, circa 1840, ovoid jar with squared rim, tooled shoulder, and applied tab handles, decorated on the front and back with a brushed cobalt stem embellished with numerous leaves flanking a central circular blossom. Cobalt brushed over each handle and in an arching line under each handle. This rare jar includes a faintly incised looping stem with hanging flowerbud on the reverse. Exceptional color. The impressed mark at the shoulder refers to a partnership between merchants, Henry Myers and John C. Bokee. Provenance: From a thirty-year Virginia collection. Chip to one handle. Smaller chips to opposite handle. Three hairlines extending up from base, measuring 3", 1 1/2", and 1/2". In-the-making 3/4" chip off underside at edge. H 13".
