Outstanding and Rare Five-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Slip-Trailed Cobalt Floral Decoration, Baltimore, MD origin, circa 1820, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, tall collar, and applied loop handles, decorated on the front and back with finely slip-trailed band of flowers between a band of leaves and wavy lines. Undersides of handles decorated with brushed cobalt four-petaled flowers with leaf outcroppings. This jar was decorated with an unusually thin-spouted slip cup, creating a finer than typical decoration. One handle professionally restored. V-shaped crack on underside, continuing 5", 1", and 3/4", onto base in three places. Additional faint 3" line at base. H 15 1/2".
