Rare Manhattan Stoneware "CROCKERY STORE" Advertising Cooler, New York State origin, circa 1830-1840, ovoid keg-form cooler with tooled bands and circular, cobalt-highlighted bung hole. Impressed with the cobalt-highlighted advertising "J. VAN.WINKLE / CROCKERY STORE / 66 VESEY ST / NEW-YORK." A highly unusual example of early advertising stoneware. Excellent condition. 3 1/4" Y-shaped line on reverse, which does not extend through to interior and probably occurred in the firing. Small chip on interior of rim. In-the-firing chips on rim. H 16".
