Extremely Rare Glazed Redware Figural Pipe Holder and Match Safe, Signed "Allentown / 1885," molded figure of a hatted man carrying a hollowed rucksack and leaning against a tree stump. Figure stands beside a larger hollow stump with tap and trough, all situated on slab base decorated with grass and flowers. Surface covered in a clear lead glaze. Signed in script on underside with an indecipherable maker's name along with the town of origin and date, "Allentown / 1885". It is likely the figure's rucksack was designed to hold matches and the hollowed stump designed to hold pipes. Possibly unique form. Glaze loss to surface, most of which is located on the figure, the top edge of his rucksack, and edge of the stump. H 5 3/4".
