Redware Log Cabin Group, probably 20th century, hand-built redware log cabin on slab base with animal skin hanging on exterior and reclining dog in doorway. Exterior of cabin includes a man seated in a chair between two jugs, a kettle on a fire, hollowed stump, and firewood. Cabin incised "SOVINEER OF / STRASBURG / VA." This is cabin is clearly in the style of the Eberlys of Strasburg, VA, circa 1890. However, various differences in the style of craftsmanship of this piece, most notably the size and lack of the use of molds for the dog and man's face, suggest this example is a 20th century copy. Provenance: Sotheby's, New York. Tiny chips to jug spouts. Small base chips. H 5 1/2" ; Length 9" ; Width 6 3/4".
