Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Butter Crock with Lid, attributed to Richard C. Remmey, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1875, low-walled cylindrical form with semi-squared rim and applied lug handles, decorated with brushed cobalt leaves on the front and back. Lid decorated with brushed cobalt swags. Small nick to one handle. Light wear to opposite handle. Crock is out of round. Small in-the-firing contact mark to rim. Some fry to cobalt on one side. Heavy chipping to knob on lid. Chips to flange on underside of lid. H (including lid) 5 3/4" ; Diameter 8 1/2".
