Very Rare Open-Handled Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Bird Decorations, probably New York State origin, first quarter 19th century, ovoid jar with open loop handles and tooled foot and shoulder. Front and back decorated with a large brushed cobalt bird design accented with cobalt dashes. Very folky design. Freehand bird decorations from this period in American stoneware production are very unusual. Missing one handle. Flaking to sections of crock near base. Base chips. Two rim chips. H 11 1/4".
