Lead and Manganese Glazed Redware Butter Tub with Twisted Rope Handles, Stamped "JOHN BELL / WAYNESBORO," circa 1860, wheel-thrown tub with tooled bands at base and shoulder, fitted with arching clay handles at the rim resembling twisted rope. Tub rests on three feet. Surface decorated with sponged manganese and overlying clear lead glaze. Impressed with John Bell maker's mark on underside. 1 3/8" lightly worn area on rim. Small chip on interior of rim. Two tiny base nicks. H (to top of handle) 5 3/4" ; Diameter 8 1/2".
