Early Ovoid Stoneware Jug with Folky Incised Bird Holding Fish, Northeastern U.S. origin, possibly New Jersey, late 18th or early 19th century, ovoid jug with foot, tall spout, and ribbed handle, decorated with a large, fat-bodied bird accented with a series of incised dashes. Bird holds a stylized fish with incised fin within its talons. Design highlighted in strong cobalt blue. Additional cobalt brushed at the ends of the handle. Desirable small size, measuring approximately one gallon. Lines on underside, one of which travels 2" up base on reverse side of jug. Hairlines on left side of jug, not visible from front. Base chip on reverse. H 12".
