Rare Two-Gallon Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jug with Iron Slip Inscription "Warante / 2," Stamped "CHANDLER MAKER," Edgefield, SC origin, circa 1850, straight-sided jug with tooled spout, covered in a heavy greenish alkaline glaze. Slip-trailed in iron-oxide with the inscription "Warante / 2". Impressed with Thomas Chandler maker's mark above inscription. Two glazed-over spout chips. In-the-making separation in handle near upper handle terminal. Small base chips. Four 1" in-the-making vertical separations at base. H 15".
