Fine Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Eagle and Banner Motif, Stamped "WM-E. WARNER / WEST TROY," NY State origin, mid 19th century, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, flared collar, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a flying eagle carrying a spotted banner in its beak. Among the better examples of this Warner motif that we have offered, as most succumbed to fry in the firing. A shallow 3/4" chip to top of rim. Minor chips and nicks to inner rim for lid. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. A minor chip and 1" horizontal line to edge of proper left handle. A chip to reverse end of proper right. Some staining. A few drips of old white paint to reverse. H 10 3/4".
