Exceptional Redware Bowl with Profuse Three-Color Slip Decoration, attributed to Henry Adam, Hagerstown, MD, circa 1805-1819, with rounded wall and flattened rim with semi-rounded edge, the interior decorated with horizontal bands of yellowish slip overlain with vertical trail of manganese slip. Wavy manganese slip line to rim. Horizontal copper slip band to top and bottom edge of cavetto. Interior surface and rim coated in a clear lead glaze. This early Shenandoah Valley regional work showcases the perpendicular slip application associated with master potter, Henry Adam, of Hagerstown, Maryland. It is distinguished by its fine color and condition, a rarity for redware of this age and origin. Among the most brilliantly decorated Shenandoah Valley redware bowls that we have ever offered. Outstanding condition with some scratches to interior. Diam. 10 3/4" ; H 3 7/8".
