Rare Salt-Glazed Stoneware Canning Jar, Inscribed "Joe Sandusky," Western PA origin, fourth quarter 19th century, squat-shaped jar with semi-rounded "wax sealer" rim, the shoulder incised with the signature, "Joe Sandusky." The 1880 federal census shows members of the Sandusky family working within the prolific New Geneva, PA stoneware industry; this jar was probably made for the Joseph Sandusky who can be documented as a member of that broader family. Small chips to interior of rim and inner rim for lid. H 7 1/4".
