Extremely Rare One-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar with Willow Island, WV Advertising, Western PA origin, circa 1875, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded rim, featuring the stenciled advertising, "NORRIS & HAMMETT. / WILLOW ISLAND. / W. VA.," surrounding a stenciled foliate motif. Cobalt stripe decoration above and below. The first example of stoneware advertising this town that we have offered. Staining to surface. A 1 1/2" base chip. A 1 3/4" surface line on underside. H 10".
