Rare Stoneware Pitcher with Incised Floral Decoration, Stamped "C. CROLIUS / STONE-WARE / MANUFACTURER. / Manhattan Wells / NEW-YORK," early 19th century, ovoid pitcher with footed base and short, inwardly tapering collar, decorated on the front with an incised and cobalt-highlighted floral motif featuring a central bud flanked by splayed leaves. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Relatively few incised pitcher by the Crolius family are known. Missing handle. A few small base chips, one of which is glazed over. A shallow 5/8" rim chip. Spout with a short surface line, not visible on interior. Some brown slip spatter and minor staining to surface. H 11 1/2".
