Very Rare and Fine Diminutive Glazed Redware Bowl with Profuse Two-Color-Slip Spot Decoration, attributed to Solomon Loy, Alamance County, NC circa 1825-1840, thin-walled, flaring bowl with concave rim molding, decorated with delicately-applied, alternating slip-trailed spots of manganese and cream-colored slip along the rim, cavetto, and interior base, the surface covered in a clear lead glaze. Its deep bowl form is significantly rarer than the dishes from this school. Featuring exceptional size and condition, this work is also distinguished by the exacting, methodical application of its wonderful slip decoration. Excellent condition with some rim wear, a loss to a slip spot at center, and other minor wear to slip. This lot's condition is noteworthy, as bowls and dishes from this region are commonly found with significant wear. Diam. 5 1/2" ; H 1 5/8"
