Salt-Glazed Stoneware "Railroad and River Guide" Pig Flask, Signed and Dated "By Anna Pottery / 1881," Wallace and Cornwall Kirkpatrick, Anna, IL, 1881, molded flask in the form of a reclining pig with hole at rear, incised details to face and hooves, and anatomically-correct underside, incised on one side with the cobalt-highlighted inscription, "St. Louis the future Great- / Railroad and River Guide / By / Anna Pottery / 1881." Remainder of pig incised with a cobalt-highlighted map of the Midwestern United States, including the following landmarks: Miss River, Chester, Grand tower, Jonesboro, alton, o & m. R.R., Springfield, Bloomington, Cairo, Carbondale, DuQuoin, Tamaroa, Centralia, Odin, vincens, mounds, Anna, Chicago the Corn City, and Cincinnati the Pork City. Covered in a heavy salt glaze. Provenance: A recently-discovered example, which descended in an Ohio family. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with some small flecks of old whitish paint to surface and typical in-the-firing contact marks to bottom of feet / legs. L 7".
