Unusual Early-Period Alkaline-Glazed Lidded Stoneware Sugar Bowl with Dark-Slip Floral Decoration, Signed "L.M.," Lanier Meaders, Cleveland, GA, circa 1960, wide, ovoid form with semi-rounded rim, brush-decorated around the body with a daisy design in blackish-blue slip against an olive-colored, alkaline-glazed ground. Includes original lid with matching glaze scheme. Underside of bowl inscribed with the script initials, "L.M.," in blackish-blue slip, a desirable early form of signature for this potter. Provenance: Frank W. White Collection. Excellent, essentially as-made condition. Diam. (of bowl) 6 5/8" ; H (including lid) 5 1/2".
