Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Canning Jar with Jackson Courthouse, WV Advertising, Western PA origin, circa 1885, tapering jar with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded "wax sealer" rim, featuring the stenciled advertising, "A.M. CARSON & CO. / DEALERS IN GEN. / MERCHAN / BUTTER.EGGS&POULTRY, / SPECIALTIES. / JACKSON COURTHOUSE / W.VA." Freehand stripe decoration and below. A small rim chip on reverse. Chips to interior of rim. A small chip to inner rim for lid. H 9 3/4".
