Rare Small-Sized Stoneware Jug with Incised Foliate Decoration, Stamped "CHARLESTOWN," Barnabas Edmands Pottery, Charlestown, MA, circa 1825, ovoid jug with tooled spout, the salt-glazed surface decorated with two incised leaf designs on the upper body. Similarities between these motifs and one found on the iconic incised eagle and fish jug, marked "BARNABAS EDMANDS & CO. / CHARLESTOWN," sold in Crocker Farm, Inc.'s Spring 2024 auction, lot 7, indicate both jugs were decorated by the same hand. Relatively few incised examples of Charlestown stoneware are known. A thin crack on reverse ascending the base and stopping directly below the lower handle terminal. A small in-the-firing ping beside decoration on front. H 10 1/8".
