Rare One-and-a-Half-Gallon Stoneware Pitcher with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "KEESEE & PARR / RICHMOND, / VA.," circa 1860, ovoid pitcher with slightly-flared collar and tooled accents to upper body and rim, brush-decorated around the upper body with horizontal tulip motifs. Swag decoration flanking the spout. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Impressed on front below collar with the partnership mark of potter, David Parr, Jr., and merchant, Thomas W. Keesee. Collar pierced with three original holes, formed prior to the firing, to allow the pitcher to be fitted with a tin lid. Provenance: Herb and Carol Hausmann Collection. Worn chips to rim and spout. Some surface wear, primarily to base of collar. Various small in-the-firing flaws to surface. H 12".
