Extremely Rare Slip-Decorated Stoneware Rooster with Alkaline Glaze, Signed and Dated "Edwin Meaders / 12-31-1986," Cleveland, GA origin, 1986, wheel-thrown and hand-modeled figure of a rooster with turned heard, impressed eyes, and saw-toothed details to comb and tail, decorated throughout with elaborate cobalt, brown, and yellow slip details. Olive alkaline-glazed surface. Underside with incised "Edwin Meaders" signature and date, with a "-1" following the date. Among the finest Edwin Meaders roosters known and the very best that we have handled. While others likely exist, we can find no other examples in our research featuring slip decoration in this manner. The style more closely follows the work of his mother, Arie, and this wonderful bird was no doubt made with her influence. Very nice condition with one smaller point reglued on comb. H 14".
