Rare Small-Sized Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Spittoon, SC origin, possibly Thomas Owenby Pottery, Union District, circa 1860, cylindrical form with flaring walls, carved semi-circular opening at shoulder, and recessed top with wide circular opening, the surface covered in a mottled gray-green alkaline glaze. Provenance: From a fifty-year SC collection. Area of cracks in recessed top of spittoon, including a section that is probably reglued, measuring 2 1/2" x 3/4". This damage connects to a top-to-bottom crack from rim with an-in-the-firing ping and small chip along crack. A minor chip or in-the-firing ping to base. Diam. 5" ; H 2 5/8".
