Rare Slip-Decorated Redware Jar, attributed to Christopher Alexander Haun or J.A. Lowe, Greene County, TN, circa 1840-1862, ovoid jar with footed base, heavily-tooled shoulder and tall collar with flattened rim, fitted with two heavily-ribbed strap handles at the shoulder. Decorated on front, reverse, sides, and handles with elaborate brown-slip stripes colored with iron or manganese, applied under a clear lead glaze. While the decoration looks distinctly like the work of Haun, Wahler describes this jar in her notes as "attributed to Greene County, J.A. Lowe potter. 1852-1862." One handle broken into three pieces and reglued, with some losses along breaks. Other handle with a thin crack in lower terminal. Some scattered exfoliation to body of jar. A 1" reglued flake to surface of underside, not visible on interior. H 8 1/4".
