Salt-Glazed Stoneware Jar, attributed to the Benjamin Anderson Pottery, Hawkins County, TN origin, circa 1880-1890, squat-shaped, ovoid jar with incised straight and wavy line treatment, flattened rim, and open strap handles. Surface covered in a heavy salt glaze. Wahler states the following about this jar in her notes: "Sherds to support attribution. Very heavy, clunky." Exhibited: Tennessee Turned, Earthenware and Stoneware Made in East Tennessee 1800-1900, Museum of East Tennessee History, May 16-October 30, 2011. Two recessed areas to rim and some in-the-firing chipping to interior of rim. A post-firing chip and nick to exterior of rim. Two large firing cracks to base area, each measuring 3 1/4". An in-the-firing base chip. A small adhered piece of clay near base. H 8 3/4".
