Two Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Pitchers, Hilton Pottery, Marion, NC, circa 1935, both of ovoid form with cobalt-dipped tops, featuring buff and mottled grayish glazed surfaces. Larger pitcher with following old pencil notation on underside: "SOME WHERE IN VIRGINIA THIS WAS GIVE TO FRANKLIN ROOSEVELT LATER IT WAS TO THE N.Y.A. BETWEEN MORGANTON AND MARION. NOW I PRESENT TO MRS. T.L. SMITH FROM LEM HARRILL." Larger pitcher in excellent, essentially as-made condition. Smaller pitcher with a few base chips and light base wear. H (of taller) 10 1/2".
