Extremely Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration and "1833" Date, Stamped "J. MILLER / WHEELING, VA", 1833, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied tab handles, decorated on the front with a brushed design of a circular daisy blossom hanging from a leafy stem. Reverse with large brushed "1833" date within a scalloped cartouche. This jar's extreme rarity is complemented by strong decorative appeal in its form, color, and boldly-brushed date. Provenance: Crocker Farm, Inc., October 22, 2016, lot 211. Heavy chipping along one handle and a minuscule base nick. Otherwise excellent, essentially as-made condition. H 9 1/2".
