Rare One-Gallon Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Pitcher, Stamped "D S," Daniel Seagle, Vale, NC, circa 1840, ovoid pitcher with ribbed handle and heavily-tooled body and rim, the surface covered in a streaky olive alkaline glaze with runs descending from the base of the handle. Front impressed "D S / 1." Provenance: Southern Folk Pottery Collectors Society. Sealed and filled breaks in underside, extending onto base where they are professionally restored. Otherwise excellent condition. H 11 1/2".
