Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jar, attributed to the Stone or Penland Family, Buncombe County, NC origin, second half 19th century, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, thin, flattened rim, and arched lug handles, decorated with a striated brown alkaline glaze. A long L-shaped crack descending from rim to midsection on one side. A diagonal crack descending from rim to midsection on opposing side. Two chips to one handle. A tiny nick to opposing handle. Some surface wear to midsection. Some shallow in-the-making chips to bottom edge of jar. H 12 1/2".
