Salt-Glazed Stoneware Cake Crock with Lid, Stamped "J. D. CRAVEN," Randolph or Moore County, NC, mid 19th century, cylindrical crock with pronounced pocket handles, impressed with Jacob Dorris Craven maker's mark on vessel's side. Includes a salt-glazed North Carolina lid, which does not fit perfectly, but may be original to the crock. A tight spider crack in underside, including one tight crack extending 2 3/4" up base. A thin 2" crack from rim. Rim with wear and minor chips. Wear to edges of handles. Lid with wear to underside of outer edge, a tiny nick to knob, and small chips and wear to flange on underside. H (including lid) 8 1/2" ; Diam. (at rim) 7 3/4".
